AMD’s Ryzen 7 9700X3D early review embargo lifted this week, and the chip slots into the X3D lineup as the value-tier pick that the 7800X3D held last generation. 8 cores with 96MB of stacked V-cache, $429 retail, and gaming performance that lands within 4% of the flagship 9950X3D in most titles tested.

For gaming-focused builders, the 9700X3D is the obvious recommendation under $500. The cache hit rates are unchanged from the 9800X3D (the V-cache stack is the same physical die), so the gaming performance gap to the higher-end parts is smaller than the price gap implies. The 9700X3D loses ground in productivity workloads, which is the real differentiator versus the 9950X3D — but for pure gaming budgets, the 9700X3D is the right pick.
